Enhancing Forestry Operations: An Interview with Irani's Angelo Victor on the Impact of Timbeter

We had an interview with Angelo Victor, the Forestry Production Coordinator from the company Irani. Irani is one of the leading companies in the Brazilian paperboard and packaging paper segments. Timbeter is used daily at Irani to plan the logistics of shipments.

How has the adoption of Timbeter affected the financial aspects of Irani Papel e Celulose’s forestry operations? Have there been cost reductions or increased profitability due to the implementation of the solution?

We use the Timbeter solution in our operations primarily for measuring piles of forest-harvested wood. We observed a proportional increase of 4% in the annual log volume and a 2% increase in the delivery of poles, which are products with a higher commercial contribution to the company.

How has the accuracy of the measurements provided by Timbeter impacted decision-making within the company, especially regarding harvest planning and wood transport logistics?

By using the solution, we can quickly and intuitively collect information on the volumes of wood available in the forest. This information is used daily to plan the logistics of shipments.

Based on your experience, what are the main challenges faced by forestry companies that can be resolved or mitigated with the use of Timbeter?

I see that the main contribution of the system is to provide relevant information about wood volume and diameter. This information is crucial for the proper segregation of each product to increase the utilization of each material and facilitate the logistical planning of the harvest operation.

How does Timbeter integrate with other existing systems or processes at Irani Papel e Celulose? Has it facilitated collaboration between different departments or teams within the company?

The integration between the data collection with Timbeter and our proprietary network information storage system provides a collaborative interface between the operation and coordination teams, allowing both to consult the information in real-time.

What importance have you seen Irani place on technology and innovation in the forestry sector, and how does Timbeter fit into this context?

The market, in general, is becoming increasingly competitive and constantly evolving. The way we performed certain activities in the past may not be the most efficient way today, and the forestry market is no different. It is essential to be versatile and stay updated to gain strength in the market, and the use of new technologies is a crucial tool in this process.

Could you share a specific example of how Timbeter helped solve a particular problem or challenge faced by Irani Papel e Celulose in its forestry operations?

With the use of the Timbeter solution, we were able to be more accurate with load planning, scheduling trucks only for wood loads that were actually available in the forest. Additionally, there was a satisfactory improvement in product separation through the diameter scanning of each pile. When observing product mixing, separation can be performed.

For other forestry companies considering adopting Timbeter, what advice or recommendations would you give based on your company’s experience?

It is important, before making any decision, to deeply understand the root of the problem and whether the tool adds value to the operation. For this, the most recommended approach is to conduct tests to verify if the system meets the particular expectations of each company.
