What they measured and why
The research goal was simple and practical: test whether AI photo measurement could reliably capture diameters and volumes in native-species piles, and compare results to traditional methods. At the same time, students used Timbeter in real company yards (UNITAN and INDUNOR) to evaluate whether the tool fits everyday forestry workflows.

How Timbeter was implemented in the workflow
The team integrated Timbeter into a structured field plan. Students were trained, then measured piles and truck loads on site, with forestry engineers supervising. Data was processed in Timbeter’s dashboard, where measurements could be checked and corrected before export.
What changed vs. manual scaling
Instead of climbing over piles with tapes and calipers, students captured images and got diameter values for nearly the whole pile almost immediately. Less time on unstable stacks means fewer safety risks and more measurements per shift.
The dashboard let them review recognition results and adjust where needed, improving confidence in final volumes. They did request more flexible editing limits for certain piles — a useful reminder that irregular hardwood yards need robust correction options.
