Crunching the numbers: our first quarter statistics

We all know that statistics have a very important role in making the forestry sector more efficient, it’s finally time to take a look at Timbeter’s numbers from the first quarter of 2019. Our team gathered information regarding the measurements made with our solution from January 1st to March 31st of 2019 and the results are worth sharing with you.

From the first day of the year until 31st of March, we reached the number of 66,217 measurements made with Timbeter. Month by month, these measurements also increased significantly, from 9,678 in January, we jumped to 25,522 in February and reached the remarkable number of 31,017 measurements in March 2019.

The main qualities measured with Timbeter during this period were: sawlog in first place, followed by fuelwood and pulpwood. Most of the sawlogs measured are located in the United States and Europe, while fuelwood and pulpwood are the most measured qualities in Asia and Latin America.

For the mostly used measurement types during the first quarter of 2019, 68% of the measurements were diameter measurement. Container measurements and pile measurements are on second and third places. For the diameter measurements, a different range of formulas were used, bringing back our discussions regarding the different rounding rules in different parts of the world. While in Europe and Latin America the cylindrical formula is the usual choice, in the United States, for instance, JAS is widely used by log exporting companies. In Russia, the most used formula is GOST 2708-75, a table based formula for roundwood measurement.

The top 3 species measured with Timbeter during the first quarter of 2019 were pine, birch and eucalyptus. Birch is majorly measured in northern Europe and Russia, while Eucalyptus measurements came from Southeast Asia and Latin America. The world’s favorite, pine, was widely seen in Timbeter measurements from all over the world.

By location, most of the measurements were made in Southeast Asia, United States, Russia and Latin America, where our top partners are located. Timbeter helps them to measure different types of logs for sawmills, exports, cellulose production and fuelwood for different purposes.
