Sustainability – why does it matter?

Sustainability – why does it matter?
This week, our team, together with 30 other innovative companies worldwide, participated of the United Nations Sustainable Innovation Expo, in Nairobi, Kenya. One single world was on the tip of the tongue of everyone, like an unisound: sustainability.

Of course, some of the visitors were intrigued with our solution and even asked is we were supporting cutting trees. These questions gave us a great opportunity to show how Timbeter is contributing as a sustainable solution.

1 – Transparency in the forestry sector

First of all, Timbeter helps to increase transparency in forestry management. With the help of artificial intelligence and machine-learning, we guarantee objective, precise digital results that are trackable and can be easily controlled. Whenever timber is being measured, it is always done in a transparent way. For the users, it is always clear what, how much and where it was measured.

2 – Better timber management

Timbeter enables better monitoring and control. Companies and state forests have real-time overview of the activities in the field and logyards. There is always a clear picture of the harvested volumes, species and assortments can be easily monitored. As all measurements are geotagged, it is easy to check the origin of every pile, contributing to fight illegal logging and harvesting of endangered species.

3 – It’s a time-saving solution

Since we raise efficiency by providing objective and fast measurements, there’s simply less time and manpower spent for measurement and paperwork. Measuring one pile manually takes minimum 30 minutes plus all the paperwork that has to be filled (and therefore can be manipulated or lost). With Timbeter, everything is done in only couple of minutes.

4 – We promote fair trade

We help to increase the fair trade and the right price for buyers and sellers. By using Timbeter, the users get objective results, which helps also the small farmers to get the right price for their timber. It doesn’t matter, if the user is small private forest owner or a large manufacturing company – timber trade should always be fair and transparent.

5 – Less waste, less pollution

Our solution was made to help to reduce the waste – with digital and objective measurements, we make sure that saw logs end up in a sawmill and not as pulp-or fuel wood that in the latter case would mean that these are simply burned. Our aim is that every log value is being maximized and that none of “the green gold” goes to waste. By that, we make sure that there’s no overusing of volumes and the diameters are fit for its purposes. And, of course, Timbeter solution is totally paper-free  – providing all the needed data in digital form, which is easily shareable internally, with different agencies and the government. Also, for those driving logs to different directions, it helps the road managers to keep track of what is being carried and also the road conditions.

6 – Improving work safety

We help to increase the workers safety – with Timbeter, measurers don’t need to risk their lives and health measuring the logs one by one, which can be dangerous as they have to be very close to the piles. Also, under extreme weather conditions, the measurer can just quickly make the measurements in 30 seconds and do the final measurement process already in the office. For the truck drivers, by providing the real volume of their loads, it’s assured that they are driving safely by avoiding overloading of logs.

In terms of sustainability, we are not stopping here and we intend to go much further.

Firstly, all the harvesting volumes can be controlled and monitored precisely with our solution. Timbeter provides an easy-to-use digital tool that enables quick and flawless information that’s easy to share between the parties.

Secondly, gathered data should be used for multifunctional purposes – for road management and protection, for reducing possible tax fraud and illegal logging.
