A Brief History of Iceland’s Forests
At the time of human settlement over 1,100 years ago, Iceland was covered by forests and woodlands on approximately 25–40% of its land area. However, extensive deforestation occurred due to timber harvesting for fuel and construction, as well as land clearing for agriculture and grazing. By the mid-20th century, forest cover had diminished to less than 1% of the country’s land area .

The company specializes in the processing of Icelandic wood, offering a range of services from harvesting to the production of finished wood products .
Demonstrating a commitment to innovation, Skógarafurðir was the first in Iceland to acquire a custom-built timber transport vehicle, enhancing their operational efficiency and capacity .
